While July didn’t take me far from Montgomery, it was still a month full of meaningful work and strong connections for your Alabama Chambers team.
We kicked off the month on July 1 with a fantastic visit to the Hoover Chamber for their board orientation. Many thanks to Nan Baldwin, IOM, and her team for the warm welcome and continued leadership.
On July 10, we spent time with the Millbrook Chamber during their board retreat. This Alabama Accredited Chamber is making impressive strides under the leadership of 2025 Chamber Champion Brenda Dennis, IOM.
We were thrilled to welcome our largest group yet—35 students—for the Huntingdon College Economic and Community Scholars program. Over two full days, these young leaders engaged in learning and community exploration. We’re grateful for our partnership with Huntingdon and extend a big thank you to the chambers who sent students. Planning for 2026 is already underway!
That same week brought a milestone moment: we crowned our first Alabama National Civics Bee Champion! Congratulations to Lucas Garrard from Enterprise, who will represent our state at the National Civics Bee in Washington, D.C. this November—we’ll be cheering him on every step of the way.
Lunch with Susan Carothers of SC Events & Communications also signaled exciting things ahead—Chamber Day 2026 planning has officially begun, and we’re aiming to make it our best yet!
And on a personal and professional note, I want to offer my heartfelt congratulations to our dear friend Jim Searcy of EDAA on his retirement. Jim’s leadership and spirit of collaboration have left a lasting impact on our state. Thank you, Jim, for all you’ve given. Fare thee well, my friend!
